Stara Zagora has given birth to performers such as Hristina Morfova, Anna Tomova- Sintova, Stefka Mineva, Veselina Katsarova and many others.
In 1971 the new modern building of the opera house was built, but in 1991 the building of the opera house was destroyed by fire. The victims of the fire are priceless sets and stage suits, and crystal chandeliers imported specifically from Italy were destroyed.
After many years, the restoration of the building was completed on October 5, 2010 (the holiday of the city of Stara Zagora). With the premiere of the opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet the doors of the most beautiful opera house in Bulgaria open again.
The Stara Zagora Opera often organizes open-air performances of the restored one a Roman forum next to the opera house.
